I play in lots and lots of tournaments in golf, and I have been playing for a long time, about 5 years. A freshman in highschool, my handicap is 8. I got to alot of state tournaments and stuff, and usually my first tee off, is HORRIBLE. On my first drive, i do duck hooks, blocks, mishits, etc. which usually results to a double bogey. This is due to my nerves. Everyone watching, lots of pressure…. Any tips/advice to help me stay calm over my first tee shot?

Is there a two player mode? We can’t afford to buy another PSP and another Golf game! We just want to play turn by turn on the same handheld. Is this possible?

I travel for work and have seen more than 5 First Tee golf courses. Although they are never full length courses, the conditions are so much better than the surrounding municipal courses. How are they able to charge so little and build great courses?

The rules in golf are fairly simple if you already know them, however explaining them could take a while. If you are not very familiar with the basics, the first thing you would need to know would be the main objective of the game: you have to hit the ball at the start or at the tee into the hole for every section in the course’s 18 sections or 18 holes.

The hole is located on the green, which is a piece of short and well-maintained grass. Once you are already on the green, you need to use your putter, which is the club that has a slab-like end, instead of your other normal clubs.

Every hole has a specified target number of shots to be done from the tee to the hole. This is called the par. For instance, if you are on a par 5 hole, you would need to get the ball from the tee to the hole in five shots or less. If you were able to do it with exactly the number of shots specified, then your score would be a par. If you did it in one less than the par, your score would be a birdie. If you did it in two less than the par, your score would be an eagle. Three below par would be called an albatross and the best score would be a hole in one, which happens if you were able to get the ball from the tee to the hole in one hit.

On the other hand, if you scored one more than the par then that would be a bogey. Two more than the par would be a double bogey. If you have tried for more that 12 shots, then you forfeit the hole. You would then have to move to the next hole.

Eventually, as you go through the game, there would be various hazards that you would have to deal with. If your ball lands on the rough, which is an area on the course that has long grass, you could find it difficult to move on from that area. There could also be trees on the rough of some courses, which could make them harder to get out of. The worst hazards would be the lakes and the ponds, because if you hit the ball into one, it would cost you the shot you took and another shot as a penalty, which would make it harder to reach par.

Part of the website also is for golf organizations such as clubs to manage their memberships, events and communicate with them through emails. Now for me to understand how this works, i gotta do some research and understand how clubs work. that costs money to join and also to join their tournaments, there’s also entry fees. This could also involved traveling to different parts of the countries to understand how different regions work.

What expenses can I deduct? membership fees? tourney fees? travel fees?

Irene Forde asked:

A golf-like game is recorded as taking place on 26 February 1297, in the Netherlands, Here the Dutch played a game with a stick and leather ball.

Whoever hit the ball into a target several hundreds of meters away the most number of times usually won.
However, golf is generally considered to be a Scottish invention, as the game was mentioned in two 15th-century Acts of the Scottish Parliament, prohibiting the playing of the game of ‘gowf’.

The oldest playing golf course in the world is The Old Links at Musselburgh Racecourse. Evidence has shown that golf was played on Musselburgh Links in 1672 although Mary, Queen of Scots reputedly played there in 1567.

The people of Scotland had a game where they would hit stones through the sand and rabbit holes using sticks. There are those who argue this as there was other games played involving sticks and balls but the essence of golf, putting the ball in the hole, began in Scotland.

When the Royal Family of the day took up the sport it spread to other countries throughout the world. So by the 1800’s golf was quite popular among both men and women.

By this time the design of golf clubs was very similar to what they are now. There were also many similarities to the game then and the way it’s played now. The clubs and balls were handmade and very expensive and could only be purchased by the wealthy, making it an exclusive game for the rich.

When metal clubs and mass production came along in the late nineteenth century this opened up the game of golf to ordinary folk.

Now, more people could enjoy the game as it was much more affordable to play. Golf clubs began cropping up throughout the world and the sport was at an all time high in popularity.

In 1894 the USGA was established and in 1900 golf was introduced as an Olympic event. Then 1914 the PGA was formed.

As a matter of fact, golf courses did not always have eighteen holes. The St Andrews Links in Scotland occupy a narrow strip of land along the sea. As early as the 15th century, golfers at St Andrews established a customary route through the undulating terrain, playing to holes whose locations were dictated by topography.

The course that emerged featured eleven holes, laid out end to end from the clubhouse to the far end of the property. One played the holes out, turned around, and played the holes in, for a total of 22 holes.

In 1764, several of the holes were deemed too short, and were therefore combined. The number was thereby reduced from 11 to nine, so that a complete round of the links comprised 18 holes.

The major changes in equipment since the 19th century have been better mowers, especially for the greens, better golf ball designs, using rubber and man-made materials since about 1900, and the introduction of the metal shaft beginning in the 1930s.

Also in the 1930s the wooden golf tee was invented. In the 1970s the use of metal to replace wood heads began, and shafts made of graphite composite materials were introduced in the 1980s.

Today we have a huge selection of ultra moderb golf equipment available from both US and Overseas manufacturers.

What’s the best way to get tee time deals for golfing in Oahu? We’re headed there next week and would like to get the scenic golfing experience. I assume there must be some way to get discounts like here in the mainland (ie golfnow.com). I’m particularly interested in Koolau golf course.
Actually, I’m interested in Luana Hills GC.
